Driven by the rapid growth of e-commerce, traditional manual sorting can no longer meet current logistics demands, leading to the widespread adoption and deployment of intelligent sorting production lines. Smooth cargo handling is the fundamental prerequisite and guarantee for smart logistics, and the key to achieving such smooth handling lies in logistics motors. Today, we will explore the relevant knowledge about logistics motors.

1. Function
Most existing sorting lines employ belt conveyors, which use a conveyor belt as the transport medium. A drive motor rotates the drive rollers, and the friction between the rollers and the belt propels the belt—and the goods resting on it—forward. Belt conveyors offer smooth and efficient material handling, making them widely used in today’s intelligent logistics systems for automated sorting. The selection of the drive motor is therefore critical to ensuring the reliable operation of the conveyor system.
2. Problem
If the selected motor specification is too small to meet the system’s requirements, blindly opting for a larger specification will not only increase costs but also compromise the system architecture due to the motor’s larger size and proportionate footprint. Moreover, selecting motors to meet diverse requirements entails extensive and complex calculations, and sifting through numerous motor combinations can be time-consuming. Given the wide range of applications and the vast array of models available for logistics motors, motor manufacturers offer many motor–reducer combinations. While this provides users with more choices, it also introduces challenges in the motor selection process.

3. Selection
When selecting a type of reducer, users must first review numerous product catalogs and then perform derivations and calculations based on operating conditions and relevant formulas. This multi-step, cumbersome process significantly hinders the selection and application process, while also making it difficult to ensure accuracy and resulting in very low efficiency. Although some manufacturers have already developed motor-selection software for general applications, such tools are not suitable for selecting motors for conveyor systems in logistics.
The drive motor for a conveyor belt is a critical factor determining its conveying efficiency and quality. Therefore, the key to resolving the selection challenge lies in choosing an appropriate method based on actual motor data samples and taking into account the specific characteristics of conveyor-drive motors—namely, their single-load profile. In addition, when selecting motor products, it is essential to opt for offerings from reputable manufacturers to ensure reliable operation.
