The Combination of High Performance and Wide Application in Permanent-Magnet DC Servo Motors

Author:

Permanent-magnet DC servo motors, as core power components in modern industrial automation and robotics, have garnered widespread attention from the industry due to their unique performance characteristics and broad range of applications. This paper examines the structure, features, operating principles, and applications of permanent-magnet DC servo motors across various fields. A permanent-magnet DC servo motor consists of a motor body and sensing components. The motor body primarily comprises three main parts: the housing, the stator poles, and the rotor. The stator poles are made of permanent magnets, eliminating the need for an external excitation power supply, which simplifies the motor’s structure and reduces energy consumption. The rotor is available in two types—standard and low-inertia—to meet the requirements of different application scenarios. Sensing components, such as high-precision tachogenerators, resolver encoders, and pulse encoders, are used to monitor the motor’s speed and position in real time, ensuring precise control. Permanent-magnet DC servo motors exhibit numerous outstanding characteristics. Their compact structure and light weight make them well suited for space-constrained applications. In addition, they offer high control accuracy and fast response, enabling rapid reaction to control signals and achieving precise position and speed control. Furthermore, these motors boast high efficiency, high torque density, and excellent thermal stability, allowing them to maintain stable performance even during prolonged operation. At the same time, they feature low noise, long service life, and ease of

A permanent-magnet DC servo motor consists of a motor body and sensing components. The motor body primarily comprises the housing, stator poles, and rotor. The stator poles are made of permanent magnets, eliminating the need for an external excitation power supply, which simplifies the motor’s structure and reduces energy consumption. Permanent-magnet DC servo motors boast numerous outstanding characteristics. Their compact structure and light weight make them well suited for applications with limited space. In addition, they offer high control accuracy and fast response, enabling rapid reaction to control signals and precise position and speed regulation. Furthermore, these motors feature high efficiency, high torque density, and excellent thermal stability, ensuring consistent performance over extended operation. Coupled with low noise, long service life, and ease of maintenance, they provide significant advantages across a wide range of applications.

In terms of operating principle, a permanent-magnet DC servo motor exploits the electromagnetic force exerted on current-carrying conductors in a magnetic field. A commutator ensures that the direction of the electromagnetic torque acting on the rotor remains constant, thereby enabling continuous rotation of the armature. This operating principle allows the motor to achieve precise speed and position control, meeting the demands of a wide range of complex application scenarios.

Permanent-magnet DC servo motors are widely used in industrial automation, robotics, medical equipment, and electronic devices. In industrial automation, they are extensively employed in CNC machine tools, printing presses, packaging machines, and other industrial equipment to enhance production efficiency and product quality. In robotics, these motors enable precise motion and manipulation, thereby improving robot performance and reliability. In medical applications, they power surgical robots and image-guidance systems, ensuring the accuracy and safety of surgical procedures. Moreover, permanent-magnet DC servo motors are commonly found in camera stabilizers and optical instruments, providing stable control over these devices.
